DAYITVA

ON-CAMPUS ENTREPRENEURSHIP CHALLENGE

(August 2009 – March 2010)

This is not a regular B-Plan competition ending with presentation of ideas; here idea is just the beginning.

Students would be required to propose plans to solve existing problems on campus, and then take on the responsibility of realization of concepts. The event is only for those with serious interest in entrepreneurship and who have in them to go beyond presentations/ reports and can get down on ground to make things work.

OBJECTIVE

The objective of this exercise is to give interested students a first-hand experience to solve a real-life problem which they are (quite possibly) facing every day. This will not only further their ability to think rationally and cohesively, but also give them valuable experience in analyzing the problems facing an organization as well as ways to solve them (local innovation). It aims at mooting the spark of entrepreneurship in fellow IITians. Through the ideas and projects that are implemented, it is envisaged that the IIT Delhi system and campus is bound to benefit.

CONTEST DETAILS

1. Submission of proposals:

In teams of upto 4 members, students would be required to submit a proposal detailing the following:

a) The identified problem on campus with cause-effect analysis

b) Proposed solution with a viability analysis

c) Execution plan for solution along with resource requirements and timelines

d) Support required for implementation (budget, logistics, permissions etc.)

Issue chosen can range from anything concerning students’ life at campus, to reducing carbon footprint of campus activities. Examples: Energy conservation solutions, Hostel Dayitva – the entrepreneurship challenge 2/2 Food and Messing, Hostel Maintenance, Motor Vehicle Problem, Attendance Problem, problem of Depression and Stress Management et cetera

2. Panel Presentation:

The short listed teams would be required to deliver a small presentation to a panel of experts, detailing their execution plan. The panel would consist of people from administration of IIT Delhi, faculty, experts from NGOs/ industries relevant to submitted proposals, alumni etc. The panel would select the plans which would be then funded, mentored and monitored for fruitful implementation of plan in the campus.

3. Implementation Phase:

Once selected by the panel, the teams would be provided all possible support for their plans. Implementation phase would be carried out in a professional manner. Teams would be required to maintain their accounts and communications in a manner similar to those of star ups. This stage would help students to understand the challenges involved in operating an entrepreneurial venture. A status review would be held in first week of November, and final review would happen in March. Awards would be given based on the final execution of the plan.
